  REVIEW:

Ratatouille – perhaps appropriately, it’s the French word for ‘piece of rat poop.’  (If it’s not – it should be!)

Disney and Pixar have joined forces again and this time they bring us a new creature…at rat called Remy.  He’s no ordinary rat because he likes good food and loves to cook.  In a strange twist of fate, he ends up in an upscale French restaurant trying to help a chef impress his boss.  Since most don’t like the idea of a rat in a kitchen, Remy’s identity must remain a secret.  The two human chefs in the restaurant befriend Remy and hope if he’s ever discovered that his identity won’t matter since he’s such a great cook.

Ratatouille features some cute characters, a little excitement, and some truly extraordinary animation.  At its core, though, it’s still a movie about rats!  Or, rather, French Rats . . .  in France . . . who love to cook!?  It’s hard to imagine that’s really what Disney’s market testing and focus groups are saying people want to see!  Thus, the odd concept translates into a rather boring story, leaving audiences unimpressed . . . and, in some cases, comatose.

  MOVIE NIGHT TRAFFIC LIGHT:

On the Movie Night Traffic Light on a scale of GREEN meaning “Go – it’s a must see”, YELLOW meaning “Caution – it’s okay” and RED meaning “No - stop don’t do it."

We rate Ratatouille YELLOW.  Caution – great animation that outshines a lackluster story!
